A Word From The Presiding Bishop

To God be the glory, great things He has done

I am delighted to write the opening word to this very important document in the history of The Methodist Church Ghana, The Building Of The New Conference Office - Wesley House.

I would first of all pay glowing tribute to my predecessors and the leadership of the Church before and after autonomy. Their faith, dedication, and sacrifice has brought The Methodist Church Ghana this far, so, we can say Ebenezer, hitherto the Lord has brought us.

The assets they bequeathed to us made us stand on our feet in the business of propagating the love of God to all and sundry. Their teaching on discipleship has led to the spread of The Methodist Church Ghana beyond the borders of the nation.

Since our autonomy, we have been housed in the Wesley House on the Liberia Road, Accra. For some time, The Methodist Church Ghana found it very necessary to get a new Head Office Complex firstly, to create more office space for the various directorates, and secondly, to befit its status as one of the oldest Christian denominations in Ghana. This need became more pressing when all the buildings surrounding the Wesley House took on new levels thus dwarfing our Head Office block.

The idea was endorsed by many Conferences, but the building never saw the light of day due to a number of reasons. The primary reasons were the financial constraint and the lack of partners to develop the Head Office Complex.

Before my election as Presiding Bishop, it was resolved to decouple the building of The Methodist Head Office from the total development of the site and importantly to undertake the project by internally generated funds (IGF) from the Finance Directorate.

On assumption of office in October 2018 as the 12th Head of The Methodist Church Ghana and the 5th Presiding Bishop, I took up the challenge and pushed the agenda forward. Now the project which has been on the drawing board for years has seen the light of day. We now have agreed to build a 15-Storey Wesley House as the new Conference Office.

To God be the glory.

As the Israelites receiving the message from Nehemiah said, “Let us rise up and build” (Nehemiah 2:18b), I also urge all the people called Methodists to rise up to this challenge and build to the glory of God.

The Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo

PRESIDING BISHOP
